“My idea for the project was to combine the industrial with aspects of nature to depict NYC as the concrete jungle it truly is. The interior panels will mimic the iconic mosaics of the subway platforms, and railroad car graffiti while the outer is an amalgamation of cartoonish playfulness that both feed into and break away from the surrounding designs. Since The Square is a staple of downtown, I wanted to attract passers by with bold colors and patterns splashed across the panels to tell the story that retro New York is still alive and well, and in your face, as only street art can do.“

“For my piece on the Square Diner outdoor dining area, I wanted to create a piece incorporating my character Marzipan, an extraterrestrial physicist, that was bright and cheerful to engage and uplift diners and passersby. Marzipan is depicted in an outer space context with shooting stars, spaceships, and planets. I often work with symmetrical designs, and incorporating the Square Diner logo that was already painted on the boards was a perfect opportunity to work with symmetry.”

This idea was in hopes that after their attention was brought to the art, that they then will look into the restaurant; maybe one day choose to try some of Square Diners delicious food.”
